The Personality Knot

The Personality Knot, serves as both a Sigil and an Identicon.

Sigils

Broadly speaking, a sigil is a visual symbol designed to represent a specific identity, intention, or magical force. The word “sigil” is derived from the Latin root sigillum, which translates roughly to a small sign, mark, or seal.

Historically, its core function was not magical but administrative. It referred to a physical engraved symbol or a wax stamp used on legal, royal, or official documents to certify identity, authority and authenticity. A ‘signet’ ring is a ring with a sigil on its face and was used set a wax seal on papers and envelopes.

Identicons

An identicon is a programmatically generated image that serves as a visual representation of a hash value. The Personality Knot Sigil is an identicon. It is hash-keyed and colored by values from the dimensions of a particular Core Personality Vector (CPV). It’s colors are generated directly from the vector rather than from an interpretation of it.

When you construct an NT Persona Kit as part of a persona deployment you can include the Personality Knot among the files in the kit. It will be rendered as a PDF file with an embedded hash of the CPV.

An alternative to portraits on cards

For those who would prefer not to use portraits, the app will allow users to replace portraits with this sigil. Choose this option in settings, where you can also choose to make the same substitution on the Character Study for all agents.

The sigil is the more literal identifier of the two. It is hash-keyed, dimension-colored, and so makes no claim it cannot support. If the physiognomy problem is what bothers you, the sigil removes it completely — there is no face to over-read.
